SCC Investment Arbitration Award for interim measures against Republic of Armenia in the interest of Samvel Karapetyan in the Electric Networks of Armenia case
The firm’s lawyers have had emergency interim measures imposed in the international investment arbitration initiated in the interests of Samvel Karapetyan and his family against the Republic of Armenia.
In June 2025, after Samvel Karapetyan was arrested in Yerevan and the Armenian authorities announced plans to nationalise CJSC Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), Ivanyan and Partners lawyers filed an application with the investment arbitration at the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) on behalf of Samvel Karapetyan and his family for emergency interim measures against nationalisation of ENA.
On 22 July 2025 the Emergency Arbitrator appointed by the SCC Arbitration Institute issued a decision imposing interim measures against expropriation of Samvel Karapetyan’s assets, in particular, obliging the Republic of Armenia to refrain from any "further steps aimed at expropriation of ENA".
The claimants were representated in the investment arbitration by the firm’s partners Khristophor Ivanyan and Andrey Gorlenko, as well as senior associate Anna Avdulova.
